Hoogeveen: Nakamura's Speedy Start and Giri's Mistakes

Round 1 of the double round-robin competition held in Hoogeveen, Netherlands has finished. Sergei Tiviakov tried to confuse the World Champion Hou Yifan by doing some nonstandard manipulations, however, the game went into the endgame with different colored bishops, none of the rivals had any chance of winning, so the encounter finished in a logical draw.

Anish Giri could have followed his "compatriot's" choice by moving his knight on e5 go into the different coloured endgame (with the rooks) and most likely to draw. Anish preferred not to exchange knights and fell into problems. Nevertheless, he still had chances to draw.

NAKAMURA - GIRI

61...Be7?
It seems like Black can hold if playing 61...Rf7! For instance, 62.Kf3 Bc7 63.Bh8 (63.Kg4 is refuted by 63...f3! 64.Kxf3 e5!) Re7! 64.g6 Re8!
62.g6 f3+ 63.Kxf3 Rh5 64.Be5 1-0
