Grand Slam Final: Caruana Crushed Vallejo and Strengthened Sole Lead

Fabiano Caruana not just maintained, but strengthened his lead after Round 1 of the Grand Slam Final which takes place in San Paulo, Brazil. Italian was the only one to win today.

CARUANA - VALLEJO

It's not ruled out that Vallejo lacked analyses in this position. GMs played a sharp variation of French defence in which White sacrificed two pawns for the attack at the kingside. Now the only opportunity to defend was 20...Qc7. The position after 21.Bxg6 Bxe3+ 22.Qxe3 fxg6 23.Rf6 may be already analyzed by Caruana before the game.

Only four more moves were made in the game: 20...Qd8? 21.Nxf7 Bxe3+ 22.Kh1 Qh4 23.Bxg6 Bg5? 24.Bh7+ 1-0
