Sergey Karjakin is happy with the results of his team match against Ukraine

The only victory scored in a decisive match between Russia and Ukraine was by Sergey Karjakin, the former Ukrainian, now playing for Russia. Andrey Volokitin thus became his victim on table three. Sergey told us a few words about this game ad his match in general

Sergey Karjakin wearing the jacket with his personal sponsor logo. However he is always polite and ready to make some photos with chess amateurs a few minutes before the game start.

"I've got very good impressions, because I won! Yesterday Vladimir Borisovich helped me with my reparartion so I got slightly better out of the opening. After that the game could end either this or that way. I can't tell you whether black had a draw without computer analysis, but my felow mates said that after 46.Re4 white wins.

One of the key points in the endgame is Vookitin's 44-th move.

KARJAKIN - VOLOKITIN

44...Rxb4? Perhaps it was necessary to approach with 44...Kd6, however I am not sure if there was a drawish position after 45.Ra7 Rb4 46.Kf5 Rh4 47.f4. If it's a draw, then Andrey made a mistake over here. Don't forget that the game was quite risky and both had some time trouble. Fortunately everything went well. I'm glad that Kramnik managed not to give up and we finished nicely".

Russia is still leading the tournament, now having two more points. The team has already played all the strong teams. Perhaps this round the Russians will make a decisive breakthrough against the US quartet. If they succeed their chances for gold medals will be quite high.
