France Championship: Final Round Cancelled

The reason is Christian Bauer's family tragedy

The French Chess Federation informed on its site that France championship participants decided to cancel the last round of the tournament. The reason is a family tragedy which occured in Christian Bauer's family. His son Louis who was only four months old died. So the results of the tournament remained as they were after round ten. The tie-break for the first place will take place on August 25 at 10 o'clock in the morning. Bauer who is currently sharing the first place will not take part in the tie-break. So the destiny of the first prize will be decide between Etienne Bacrot, Romain Edouard and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.

"The French Chess Federation would like to express its sympathy to Nathalie Franc and Christian Bauer. It is a great sorrow to lose their child".
