Wang Hao surpassed Magnus Carlsen by winning in the last round

The creators of the "three points for a win" format celebrate success: there's no better proof for a spectacular show than the last days of the super GM tournament held in Biel. Let us remind you: Carlsen won the personal encounter against Wang Hao in Round 7 and caught him gathering the same amount of points; then both win their games; the Chinese player losses in the penultimate round and Carlsen garbs lead after finishing his game in a draw; eventually, today Wang Hao wins the decisive game against Anish Giri, while the rating favourite Calrsen fights till the end against BAcrot, however, the position stays approximately equal.

As a result there's a quite rare outcome: the results of the classical and "modernized" systems of counting of the points for the first place, turned out to be opposite. Wang Hao lost three games - more than his nearest rivals Carlsen, Giri and Nakamura, but he gained two wins more than any of them.

We've already reported how Wang Hao broke Grunfeld. Vishy Anand has also mentioned Wang Hao's victory on his Twitter page: "Impressive play by Wang Hao."

Nakamura - Bologan  encounter, which wasn't deciding anything, finished in American's favor. It's interesting what does Daniil Dubov thinks about Viorel's pet opening Benko Gambit for black; The young GM Dubov  will start playing in the superfinal of the Russian Championship tomorrow and recently he confirmed that he is ready to play this opening against Krmanik if possible in the interview to our website.

Noteworthy is the high percentage of decisive games in the main tournament of Biel festival: 66.6. In other words, two games out of three were finishing in someone's favor.
