Hou Yifan has secured the win in the Grand Prix series and the participation in the World Championship Match

The penultimate round of the fifth Women's Grand Prix stage has finished in Jermuk. Ju Wenjun's loss to Zhao Xue guarantees the leader Hou Yifan a share of the first place, as a minimum. And that means that the World Champion is definitely showing the best result in the series: she already has two tournament wins, which gave her 160 points each, and now she will add another 150 points to 320 in the worst case scenario. No one else can achieve this result.

This is how the tournament table with summary points looks, as of today.

According to the unusual FIDE rules, Hou Yifan has secured herself the participation in the World Championship Match next year, against the Champion at that point in time. The knockout championship, which is to be held in the autumn of this year, will decide who will be the champion at that point in time.

Have a look at all the games from today's round in Jermuk. Zhao Xue won in the 'Kramnik Variation' of the King's Indian Defence (12.Bf3).
