  • While the first free day of the European Championship saw the tours to the Dead Sea and the fortress of Masada, the second day-off gave the participants the opportunity to enjoy the Old City of Jerusalem.

  • The participants of the Alekhine Memorial flew from Paris to St. Petersburg.

  • World Junior Championships under 20 are coming to an end today in Pune, India. The champions are already known: Lu Shanglei (China) won the gold in the Open championship with 10/13, while Aleksandra Goryachkina (Russia) totally dominated the Girls championship with 11 out of 13 which is one point and a half ahead of the nearest rivals.

  • The participants of the annual "Snowdrops versus Oldhands" competition spent their free day differently. The organizer of the tournament Pavel Matocha suggested young players to go for skiing, however, Valentina Gunina and Alina Kashlinskaya decided shopping in Prague would be more exciting. Tania Sachdev was the only one to choose skiing.

  • Maria Manakova was the best in the Ostankino blitz tournament. Last night there was yet another event held in the capital's main telecentre. Twelve participants played in an all-play-all and included Anatoli Shvedchikov and Maxim Orlinkov, who distinguished themselves in the recent Ostankino team cup, as well as Mark Gluhovsky, Elmira Mirzoeva, Galina Strutinskaya and Boris Gruzmann.

  • The 3rd China Women Chess Masters Tournament has started today. This is a round-robin competition which gathered eight Chinese players (all the strongest except Hou Yifan and Zhao Xue), one Russian Valentina Gunina and one Georgian Lela Javakhishvili.

    Ju Wenjun, Tan Zhongyi, Huang Qian, Guo Qi, Ding Yixin, Wang Jue, Shen Yang, Zhang Xiaowen are representing China.

    The opening ceremony and drawing were held yesterday. 

  • The RGSU has welcomed the participants of the Moscow Open yesterday.
