At the end of the first game of the Tal Memorial, the sharp encounter Carlsen - Kramnik, both participants shared views at the press conference. You can listen to the full audio recording in the audio player (in English and in Russian).

The game was partly covered online, on our Twitter page. Kramnik was happy with his position as Black out of the opening. He thought that all lines except 20.Qc2 (that's how Carlsen played) led to a checkmate by Black. And after 20.Qc2 the ex-Champion didn't see anything tangible in any of the variations and decided, "We've entertained the public and it's enough for the first day. Especially after yesterday..."

With regards to yesterday, Kramnik said that he doesn't play blitz almost at all. The last time was against Grischuk in Kazan. "I just lost an interest in blitz; it's probably the result of the ageing process. I didn't care if I won or lost. Blitz is an emotional game, which requires straining and concentration. But I just sat there and couldn't force myself to concentrate. That's why the outcome is logical".

Vladimir also added that recent training plays a big part in blitz. "I had a feeling that several people did train for it and some just... turned up and started playing. Of course, it's not possible to judge anything by looking at blitz".

Carlsen admitted that yesterday's blitz tournament was some way for him to "get rid of the rust" after a long break in playing practice. He's happy with today's result against Kramnik.
