The World Championship match held in Moscow is close to its culmination.

Gelfand grabbed a strategic initiative already at the end of the opening stage of the game: 12...Rac8?! 13 c5! and 14 f4!. Gradually Viswanathan's position became critical. His desperate venturesome attack 22...g5 could lead him to losing the game.

Boris Gelfand missed chances of gaining a quick win (on move 26 and earlier), and finally being in a time trouble again lost the remained advantage. Anand gave him another chance in a so called Nalimov endgame, however, the Israeli GM again missed the chance of equalizing the score.

After three games the score is 2-1 in Anand's favor.

The lucky bargee

In order to stay in the match Gelfand needs to win Game 4, which is under way.
