Caruana won Reykjavik Open 

Fabiano Caruana of Italy, #7 in the world rankings, luckily escaped women's world champion Hou Yifan in the last round of Reykjavik Open to win the competition with 7.5/9, half a point clear of his rivals who tied for the second place: Ivan Sokolov (the Netherlands), David Navara (Czech Republic), Gawain Jones (England), Boris Avrukh (Israel), Hou Yifan (China), Maze Sebastien (France) and Henrik Danielsen (Iceland).   

Ivan Cheparinov (Bulgaria), Robert Hess (USA), Yuriy Kryvoruchko (Ukraine), Vasily Papin (Russia), Vladimir Baklan (Ukraine), Aloyzas Kveinys (Lithuania), Hedinn Steingrimsson (Iceland) and Stelios Halkias of Greece scored 6.5/9 each.

The competition gathered 198 participants; first 18 places have been occupied only by Grandmasters.
