Shakhriyar Mamedyarov: "Caruana played weaker than he can" (AUDIO)

The player from Azerbaijan got to the 1/4 final of the FIDE World Cup - this is the main summary of the event for the local audiences. It's quite of an event for others as well since Shakriyar Mamedyarov's win over Fabiano Caruana is not that casual after all.

Mamedyarov defeated his famous opponent in the first classical game; today the Italian-American GM missed chances to take a revenge. On the final stages of the game, Fabiano actually had to fight for equality.

"The match against Caruana by definition couldn't be an easy one, - Shakhriyar told our website. - Especially at the World Cup. Fabiano really wanted to win today and at some point I even felt the threat. Thanks God all ended well for me. In the first game I was taking chances, the risk was pretty strange, but it paid off. My rival had chances to seize the initiative in both games, but I think Fabiano played weaker than he can."

According to Mamedyarov his family comes to cheer him up to the Fairmont hotel every day. "Their support helps me a lot. Before each game they give me some fruits from our dacha. My farther takes care of them and brings them here himself - it is a pleasure to eat this kind of fruits."
