Prime Minister of Russia follows the President's example and visits a top chess event

Something unexpected has happened in Krasnaya Polyana today: Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, paid an unannounced visit to the World Women's Championship.

Accompanied by Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Medvedev saw round the playing venue, entered the commentators' booth, examined how the games were being broadcasted, participated in a photo session with FIDE officials, and even played a game against the chess robot. However, the high official refused to make the first symbolic move in Alexandra Kosteniuk's game - it was FIDE President who had to perform 1.e4 on the board. The Medvedev - Robot game ended in a draw immediately after the Prime Minister had offered it to the robot creator, Konstantin Kosteniuk.

This isn't the first time top Russian government officials attend chess events held in their country. In November 2014, Vladimir Putin had visited the closing ceremony of the Carlsen - Anand match. This time, President of Russia confined himself to the greetings read by his advisor during the inauguration.
