The tournament in memory of Mikhail Tal will nevertheless take place in Russia this year, and quite soon: it will be held in Sochi, in the same Media Center as the current Carlsen - Anand match. The only difference from the previously cancelled Tal Memorial is that now it's a blitz tournament. No information is currently available about whether it's a one-time event or the one to become traditional.

The double round-robin tournament of 12 participants will be held within two days, November 13 and November 14, 2014. The prize fund is huge, being equal to $100000 ($20000 for the winner), but hungry chess middle-class semiprofessionals shouldn't be agitated too much: there aren't (and weren't) any qualifiers, unlike in the Corsican Pursiut or the Millionaire Chess Open. All the participants are invited personally by the Russian Chess Federation, and the list of players hasn't been unveiled yet.

Full regulations of the Tal Memorial blitz can be downloaded from the Russian Chess Federation official website.

Let us remind you that tomorrow, on November 9th, the great chess player Mikhail Tal would have turned 78.
