Magnus Carlsen choose only black on the first evening (PHОТОS)

The opening ceremony of the 41st chess Olympiad has been held in Tromso, Norway. Far not all the top players managed to visit the ceremony, nonetheless, the hall specially built for the event was full.  


The record number of countries (178) participate this year. All were announced on the giant screen with the flags accompanying the sound. 


The ceremony was practically led by the mayor of the city Jens Johan Hjort. 


The ceremony was live broadcasted by the Norwegian TV channel NRK.


Magnus Carlsen who joined the mayor on the scene noted that the responsibility doubles at the team competitions. Then the world champion took the pieces from two caskets, both were black. 


This meant the first boards of the odd teams in the starting list (in both men's and women's sections) had black pieces today.  


Kirsan Ilyumzhinov's 
welcoming speech lasted for exactly three minutes.


The formal part of the ceremony was mixed with musical pauses.


Not only this young lady enjoyed the brevity and showeness of the event.
