Anish Giri is one of a few GMs never been defeted by Magnus Carlsen in classical games. Giri faced Carlsen for the sixth time at NorwayChess supertournament and he again managed to hold.

Several minutes before the start of Round 1. Anish's coach Vladimir Tukmakov checks time.

The world champion awaits his undefeated opponent

After the game Carlsen smiled saying he doesn't have Giri complex. In a commentary for Magnus noted "I am a bit disappointed with the result, but my performance was okay." Then he added that Anish defended very well, so it is hard to win when the opponent makes no mistakes.

Giri said he didn't deserve to lose as he did "everything more or less correctly."

As we reported earlier Kasparov made the first move in the game. Then the former world champion commentated on the games through the live broadcast. After Carlsen's move 16.Ng5 Kasparov said, "I don't really get what is White's plan." He then analysed the line with 16...е6 which leads to equality. Giri didn't make the "obvious" move immediately, while Kasparov seemed surprised, "What should you be thinking about here? There are no other possibilities than e7-e6!"

"At his moment I understood that my position is more dangerous than I thought before," Dutch GM confessed. "I also understood that this is a decisive moment, so it was worth of taking time to think as a mistke would lead to a loss and finding the correct move would enable me to hold the game..."

Giri played 16...е6 after forty more minutes when Kasparov replied to all questions and left the commentators' booth.
