Shamkir: Mamedyarov again defeated by the world champion

The second cycle of Gahimov Memorial started like very beginning of the competition: Carlsen defeated Mamedyarov, two other encounters were drawn.

As the world champion said at the press conference yesterday's football competition improved his overall mood as he just needed sort of a shake-up, positive emotions.

Mamedyarov surprised in the opening - he sacrificed a pawn in a rare line of Nimzowitsch defence. He could reach an equal (and in some lines forced draw) position after 14.е5 Nd5 15.Bxh6!. Apparently Azerbaijani should have played so as 14.d5 seems too risky. After 14...c5 Shakhriyar spent more and more time which eventually had an affect.

22.f5? A decisive mistake after which as Carlsen said he was already happy with the position. White should have continued fighting by 22.Re1.
