Vladimir Kramnik: "I Didn't Really Have Chances"

Vladimir Kramnik was last to appear at the press center after Round 6 of Candidates'.

Kramnik approached a defeat from Veselin Topalov philosophically.

"It happens: it wasn't my day. All went against me. You may say I was unlucky.

I didn't play the opening very well and my opponent had prepared very strongly. I underestimated some things in the preparation. I wouldn't like to say now what exactly. Then I wanted to deviate from some sharp lines which were analyzed by my opponent.

I wanted to get some play and not lose against some computer analysis. On the other hand my position was very unpleasant and my opponent played the first line of the computer the whole game so I think I didn't really have chances. Of course I tried to keep in the game and tried my best, but still the position was very unplesant.

Why I decided to play Queen's Gambit? Topalov is known for his computer preparation and I thought that there were less chances to be tricked with some computer suff in a solid opening. I was ready to play a "fair" game at the board and I hoped he wouldn't come up with something extraordinary in Queen's Gambit, well I was mistaken...

I don't feel like I played worse than yesterday or in any other day. It's just that it wasn't my day. It is that rare case when I have nothing to blame myself for."
