Wijk aan Zee closed till the next year

The 76th Wijk aan Zee festival has finished. The traditional farewell dinner and the closing ceremony was held in one of the hotels that hosted the participants of B-Group for 18 days.

Levon Aronian won the Masters for the fourth time. Anish Giri and Sergey Karjakin shared 2-3. Aronian gave a touching speech after the award ceremony in which he thanked the organizers for everything noting that they have an exceptional staff working for the event.

He also noted Wijk festival is his favourite competition and that he is always thrilled to play there. As Armenian GM said he is looking forward to beating Vishy Anand's record (the former world champion won the tournament five times).

Levon mentioned his last round game saying he wanted to win but eventually it turned out that "Loek wanted to win even harder." Other than that Armenian is satisfied with his play.

"You know, chess players are called wizards, but for me the real wizard will always be Jeroen van Den Berg. Because with any budget... I think if I organise the tournament and have no money at all and ask Jeroen: "Can you come and make a tournament?", he will come and have all the best players. He is really the wizard of organising the tournaments. His team is amazing. They have the human touch and friendliness and they understand how to treat everybody. Thank you Jeroen!", Aronian said.

More on the festival in Evgeny Surov's photo report soon on Chess-News.

As we already reported Wijk aan Zee festival will surely have continuation in the next year. As minimum Tata Steel Chess Masters will be held in 2015. The dates are January 9-25.
