The winner of Russian Cup Dmitry Jakovenko talked of the situation in chess world in the interview for RCF website, namely he discussed the appearance of the new world champion:

"I think players saddened as they might be thinking that once you become a challenger your rival will be aged Anand. Now becoming a challenger is just getting some financial benefits, while most have no chess perspective.

Well, the young generation surely has some chances. I mean those names we hear about every day, I won't name each and every because we all know them. On the other hand I hope Carlsen will continue playing and winning which should help to rise popularity of chess in the world.

I don't want to be mean to Anand, but still, he hasn't won a tournament probably during the last 2-3 years and majority of his games were drawn which wasn't very interesting. So, now when he is not the champion any more, in every tournament he plays his win will be a "mini-sensation" and that might liven up chess life."

According to Jakovenko he is satisfied with his own career, "Correlation of "financial benefit - efforts spent" are higher than in most of other activities. You can sleep as much as you want and this shouldn't be underestimated. So, it's obvious that I like playing chess."
