Svidler Nominated by RCF for Candidates

Peter got a chance 

FIDE website reports Peter Svidler will be the 8th participant of the Candidates tournament. The competition will take place from March 12-30 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Svidler is nominee of the Russian Chess Federation.

In a recent interview to our website Peter revealed he was eager to get the chance to fight for the title, "I am absolutely sure that I would prepare with great interest for another tournament if I just had such chance..."

  • The 2016 Candidates tournament will take place in the capital of Russia from March 10-30

  • FIDE website reports the next Candidates to be held from March 12 to 30. The venue is Russian city Khanty-Mansiysk.

  • Only a month is left before the Candidates starts in Khanty-Mansiysk, the opening ceremony of which is scheduled on March 12. According to regulations FIDE should held the drawing of lots in the central office located in Athens exaclty a month before the competition starts.  

    There are four Russian grandmasters participating which means they have to face each other in the 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th rounds. 

  • We were informed that Sergey Karjakin still maintains the chance to play in the Candidates. This might happen if Vladimir Kramnik reaches the final of the World Cup. In that case, according to the Candidates' tournament regulations, the player with the average rating for August 1st, 2012 - July 1st, 2013 will qualify to it. Sergey Karjakin is next after Kramnik.

  • Two more games of Roud 1 at Candidates' were drawn. Topalov drew Mamedyarov, while Svidler signed a peace treaty with Karjakin.

  • Silvio Danailov told Chess-News Bulgarian Chess Federation will send a bid for the FIDE Candidates tournament which is scheduled to take place in March 2014. This will be possible only after FIDE will open the bidding procedure. Yet such a procedure is not opened, however, yesterday it was announced that Khanty-Mansiysk will also send the bid to FIDE to hold the competition.

  • The RCF website reports that the simultaneous exhibition planned to take place on February 15th will be held for 90 junior players. Anatoly Karpov, Alexander Grischuk, Sergey Karjakin, Peter Svidler, Dmitry Andreikin, Wang Hao, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Ian Nepomniachtchi and Sergey Rublevsky are among those who will play against children.

  • The organisers of the supertournament Norway Chess announced another participant - Russian GM Alexander Greischuk. Thus, much like in Candidates', 4 out of 8 participants are Russian:
