Candidates 2014 Will Be Held In Khanty-Masiysk

Bulgarians sent a refusal 

FIDE President assistant Berik Balgabayev confirmed on his Twitter-page that the Candidates 2014 will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. Earlier this was announced by Evgeny Bareev.

Balgabayev wrote, "Bulgarian side sent a refusal with a very strange explanation. Apparently because Albena was denied with hosting Youth Championship. All this seems to be a bluff." 

Let us remind you that Bulgarian city Kozloduy was a candidate city for holding the Candidates. Earlier we reported FIDE was waiting for a guarantee letter from Bulgarian Chess federation up to today.   

We will follow the development of the events and provide you with the up to date commentaries on the issue.

  • Silvio Danailov told Chess-News Bulgarian Chess Federation will send a bid for the FIDE Candidates tournament which is scheduled to take place in March 2014. This will be possible only after FIDE will open the bidding procedure. Yet such a procedure is not opened, however, yesterday it was announced that Khanty-Mansiysk will also send the bid to FIDE to hold the competition.

  • FIDE website reports the next Candidates to be held from March 12 to 30. The venue is Russian city Khanty-Mansiysk.

  • FIDE site has announced that the Federation expects official bids from cities wishing to host the Candidates Tournament next year (12-30, March). Khanty-Mansiysk has already sent its bid and it will be reviewed during the FIDE Congress in Tallinn in October. Perhaps the Bulgarian chess Federation will also send its official bid.

  • As Chess-News has found out the trial initiated by the Bulgarian Chess Federation (BCF) which sued FIDE has finished in Lausanne. Namely, BCF demanded abrogation of the contract signed between FIDE and company AGON. According to the contract, the Candidates tournament was scheduled to take place in March 2013 in London. The suit implied the demand for cancellation of the tournament.

  • Today the FIDE General Assembly wil decide the place where Olympiad-2016 is going to take place. The main candidate is Baku, who offered a wide presentation of Azerbaijan bid the night before. Apart from Baku, the other candidates are Bulgaria and Estonia. 

  • Kirsan Ilyumzhinov will pray chess crown to get back to Russia

  • FIDE president's assistant Berik Balgabayev commented for our website on Garry Kasparov's accusations towards current FIDE leadership. According to one of such accusations Russian embassies worldwide are putting pressure on chess federations and demand from them voting for Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

  • All participants of the Candidates signed the contract

  • Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is on working visit in Moldova. One of the initiatives discussed was announced by FIDE pesident's assistant Berik Balgabayev:

  • The World Cup 2015 will take place from September 10 till October 4. This was announced after FIDE delegation visited Baku for inspection, Berik Balgabayev FIDE president assistant informs in Twitter.

    Let us remind you, Azerbaijan got the right to hold the World Cup in "the package" together with Olympiad 2016. The country's bid won two years ago at FIDE Congressin Istanbul.
