A scandalous decision was made at the FIDE Board meeting in Tallinn held yesterday. The venue for the World Youth Chess Championship 2015 had to be chosen. There were three candidate cities: Antalya (Turkey), Porto Carras (Greece) and Albena (Bulgaria).
The inspection commission has visited all three cities earlier this year. The conclusion texts placed in the official booklet were handed to all participants of the meeting.
You can see the text in the photo.
All candidate cities made presentations in order the delegates to choose the one they liked the most by voting.
We quote Silvio Danailov:
"What happened today can only be described as a daylight robbery. People came from Bulgaria to make an impressive presentation. As you could understand this wasn't a cheap thing to do. Several minutes before the meeting started, the delegates were handled a document presenting some new regulations which haven't been known earlier. As it turned out the inspector recommended to choose Porto Carras and according to new regulations approving inspector's report is enough for making a decision."
FIDE Vice-President Georgios Makropoulos proposed to approve the inspector's report and everyone except Danailov voted for it. Thus, Porto Carras has been chosen as the venue for the event.
Several minutes after this happened Silvio Danailov was saying Mr. Makropoulos and FIDE Executive Director Geoffrey Borg, "Shame on you!" Borg kept silence, but Makropoulos replied, "Shame is what you are doing every day."
Danailov is confident he will make FIDE to foot the bill for this, in his opinion, lawlessness in the Court for Arbitration for Sport.
