Fiery Speeches in Poikovsky

The traditional tournament named after Anatoly Karpov has started in Poikovsky. Below you can find extracts from the commentary Alexander Andreevski, the director of the event, gave Chess-News.

The welcoming speeches were delivered by the general sponsor Yuganskneftegaz and local officials.

The speeches were also delivered by three grandmasters. One of those was Oleksandr Onischuk who is the only participant who payed in all Poikovsky tournaments.    

Emil Sutovsky delivered a fiery speech - as in Russian, so in Hebrew, which we heard for the first time.

Ivan Cheparinov, who participates in Poikovsky for the first time, addressed words of gratitude to the organizers.

Bulgarian GM will go down in history as the first ever Bulgarian participant.

The chief arbiter Yuri Lobanov, who works for the Poikovsky tournament for the 13th time, gave start to Round 1 at 13:00 CET."


Ernesto Inarkiev defeated Emil Sutovsky giving those who think Grunfeld is impregnable a chance to change their attitudes
