Chess-News has found out that Alexander Motylev will replace Evgeny Tomashevsky in Poikovsky tournament which starts on August 27th. The replacement is forced as Tomashevsky has defeated Gata Kamsky in 1/4 final and advanced to the semifinal.

As Evgeny said he considered his chances only as 45%, especially taking into account the fact that Kamsky had an extra rest day. Yesterday Tomashevsky quickly offered a draw in order to have some rest, today he outplayed American in an extremely sharp game.

KAMSKY - TOMASHEVSKY

35.b4? Correct was 35.Qd4.
35...h4 36.Qd4? Now it's already too late. The cmachine suggests: 36.b5! But even here after 36...Rd6 (36...Qxb5+? 37.Qd3 Qxd3+ 38.Rxd3) 37.Qb3 Rxd5 38.b6 Rb5 39.Qd3 Qxd3+ 40.Rxd3 Rb2+ 41.Kf1 Rxb6 42.Rd4 Rh6 White should fight for a draw.
36...h3 37.Kf1 h2 38.Kg2 h1Q+ 39.Kxh1 Qh3+ 40.Kg1 Rg6+ 0-1

Tomashevsky's opponent will be determined in Svidler - Andreikin match playoff which takes place tomorrow.
