The first duel decided the outcome of the match.

HAMMER - MOVSESIAN

16.Bxh6? Hammer made an inaccurate sacrifice but his opponent denied it: 16...gxh6 17.bxc6 Rae8! (maybe Sergey didn't see this move) 18.cxb7 Rxe4 19.Qc1 Qxb7 20.Qxh6 Re6. White is losing a piece and has no enough compensation for it.

Movsesian played 16...cxb5? and later blundered. Norwegian managed to hold the second game and qualified to the next round.

Jon Ludvig Hammer became the hero of the first playoff, at least for the local fans.

Thrilling turned out to be the blitz match between Cori and Radjabov, but not because of the games but the zero tolerance rule and forfeit Peruvian player got for being late to the game. Details soon on Chess-News.
