169 participants will determine the strongest

The chief arbiter of the European Individual Women's Chess Championship IA Sava Stoisavljevic announced the start of Round 1 at 15:00 CET. This 11-round Swiss competition with 169 participants is taking place in Belgrade, Serbia. Top-seeds of the tournament are: Anna Muzychuk, Nana Dzagnidze, Kateryna Lahno, Tatiana Kosintseva, Pia Cramling, Bela Khotenashvili, Valentina Gunina, Viktorija Cmilyte, Antoaneta Stefanova, Alexandra Kosteniuk.
Information on the tournament 

A spectacular opening ceremony of the event took place yesterday.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Sports of Serbia, former famous GM Alisa Maric, the President of European Chess Union Silvio Danailov and the veteran GM Ljubomir Ljubojevic.
