Information on the incident.

Е.SUROV: It's 19.34 Moscow Time and GM Baadur Jobava is live on Chess-News. I should admit he asked for the live broadcast quite unexpectedly even for me, so this is not a planned interview, we didn't even announce about it on our website. Baadur, good evening.

B.JOBAVA: Good evening Evgeny.

E.SUROV: As you could already guess I haven't prepared questions in advance. So, I think it's be logical to ask how you feel after this incident that happened at the European Individual Chess Championship.

B.JOBAVA: Yes, thank you. So, I will literally need a few minutes of your attention. Well, I just had an hour walk, it's a great weather here, and all that. So, I spontaneously decided to get in touch and say a few words regarding the mentioned situation. First of all, as I didn't have a chance to do it at the EICC I would like to congratulate the first three prize-winners: Alexander Moiseenko with a brilliant result, Evgeny Alekseev and Evgeny Romanov with an outstanding achievement. I will also use this opportunity to congratulate Sergey Karjakin. My sincere congratulations to the winners, I wish them further success.

Now let's get back to my situation. I had problems for the last three-four years. The sum of the reasons led to psychological problems and I was just extremely unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was just seeking for oblivion, so I decided to escape my troubles for several days. I know that's not a solution, but I just needed some rest. It happened at the EICC - at the tournament with such a meaningful status. I would like to express my regret for the incident, first of all, to the organizers. They organized a great event, a top level tournament. And now this blot which will stay - It's of course very unpleasant for me. I only hope they will understand me. I would also like to apologize to my relatives, friends who will always be by side and understand me. I promise this won't happen again. I mean I don't say I won't ever drink again, but I won't do anything like this at the tournaments.

I would also like to mention my friend David Lomsadze, a great guy. He arrived there by his own costs, he really loves playing chess and it just happened that he met me, we haven't seen each other for a long time... I admit everything that happened is my own fault and responsibility. He just happened to be there. There also are some rumours and comments that there happened some kind of a fight between us - that's just nonsense. In reality, I remember we were in the car being in a quite inadequate condition. I also remember that the car stopped short and he just hit his head badly on a glass and smashed the face. If there are any objections we can provide with the medical proof that this wasn't a fight, but those were cuts on his face. They've been sutured up and all that.

I would like to thank the young family of Sanikidze for the help. If not their help, we would still be there and it'd be unclear how would all that end. They helped us immensely and got us out of that... I won't say that loudly. I would also like to thank all of my well-wishers, my captain Andrey Maksimov for his support, for being with me till the end.

I would also like to use this opportunity and congratulate my wife with her birthday which is today. And so to say the present came.. Well, she is patient.

I once again promise that this won't happen again. I hope that the organizers and everyone else will undertand me as a human. I hope this incident won't be further publicized and will be simply forgotten.
