EICC: Police and Ambulance Called for Two Georgian Players

Two participants of the European Individual Chess Championship Baadur Jobava and David Lomsadze appeared to the last round game in an intoxicated state, moreover, Lomsadze looked battered and his face was covered in blood. The organizers of the tournament called for the police and ambulance for them.

  • Garry Kasparov has been arrested and beaten by the Moscow police near the court building while the sentence related to the Pussy Riot group members was being announced in the Hamovniki court. Kasparov.ru informs that policemen started to beat Garry in the police car, where he was brought up by force.

  • The 6th round of the Georgian Men's Championship has finished in the Tbilisi Chess Palace. Unlike the previous round which was marked with a triumph of White (they won 5 out of 6 games), Round 6 finished in Black’s favor – 4 out of 6 games finished in their victory, other 2 games finished peacefully.

  • The participants of the European Individual Chess Championship are arriving to the venue of the tournament - Legnica, Poland today. At the moment overall 297 participants are registered for the tournament. The strong composition of the championship is proved for instance by the fact that the chess expert and a frequent guest on Chess-News GM Alexey Dreev is only 35th with his rating in the list of participants, Belarusian GM Sergei Zhigalko is 29th.

  • The organizers of the European Individual Chess Championship which is scheduled to take place from May 5th-16th in Polish city Legnica note that "chess is getting more and more popular sport in Poland. According to the statistics, the number of people playing chess in our country is second only to the number of people playing football."

  • As we've already informed you European Individual Chess Championship 2015 will take place from February 1-14 in Jerusalem. The president of the Israeli Chess Federation Moshe Slav shared some details on the event in the interview to Chess-News.
