Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club Will Organize the European Individual Chess Championship in May

The organizers of the European Individual Chess Championship which is scheduled to take place from May 5th-16th in Polish city Legnica note that "chess is getting more and more popular sport in Poland. According to the statistics, the number of people playing chess in our country is second only to the number of people playing football."

Two European forums will take place in Poland this year: the individual and the team championships. The latter is planned to be held in Fall. The local Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club got the right to organize the European Individual Chess Championship. The members of the club are such Polish players as Mateusz Bartel, triple Polish champion and  winner of the world's strongest open tournament, Dariusz Świercz, world champion under-20, Jolanta Zawadzka and Iweta Rajlich, medal winners at the Polish and European Team Chess Championships. Polonia Wroclaw Chess Club decided to organize this prestigious tournament and decided to hold it in Legnica. It is one of the largest towns of Lower Silesia and an administrative, economic, cultural and educational center of the region. The participants can expect a thrilling competition as well as many other attractions.

According to the Championship manager Artur Czyz, "Our priority is to organize an event of the highest standard, but we also aim to popularize the discipline and pass the chess passion to others. We find it important to promote  chess as a mind-stimulating game which aids the development of intellectual skills."
