Recently one of the Odessa based chess-draughts club hosted Natalia Zhukova who won the gold medal in the World Team Chess Championship as a member of the Ukrainian national team. The website porto-fr.odessa.ua published the extracts from the meeting.

Namely, one of the questions Zhukova was asked sounded as follows: "It's known that the Chinese players gratify themselves during the games by using some special ointments. Some of their rivals don't like the smell which irritates them. What about you?"

Zhukova, "I like how the Chinese players smell. Sometimes you even get yourself closer to the board in order to feel that smell. They put it on specific parts of the body - on the temples, wrists and on the other side of the knees. I guess that helps them to concentrate. The ability to concentrate is one of the most important things on the way to win for any chess player. We all play approximately on the same level, but letting your attention to relax leads to a decisive mistake."
