A friendly match between GM Nigel Short and the strongest Iranian player GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami is taking place in Tehran.

The match is pretty unusual as long as GMs play so called Talking Chess, which means they explain their thought processes to the public during the game. This is how it goes: after every fifth move the players move to another room making the video recording of analysis of the current position. At this point they don't hear each other. Then they return to the game and continue playing, while the spectators listen to their previously announced thoughts.

The organizers hope to increase the interest of public to chess in this way, at the same time such a format could be interesting for TV.

Two classical games have already been played: Nigel Short won the first one, the second finished in a draw. After playing two other classical games, Short and Maghami will play four rapid and eight blitz games.

Let us remind you, this is not the first attempt of using Talking Chess format. It was tried at Botvinnik Memorial held in 2001 in which Kramnik, Carlsen, Aronian and Anand have participated. At that time the players weren't even going to another room in order to record their thoughts, because while one was talking, his opponent was sitting in headphones.
