Alexander Morozevich to Set the Pace in Tashkent

Grand Prix Tashkent has a sole leader

Alexander Morozevich decided to take maximum of being #1 in the table of the Grand Prix Tashkent and won first two games with White. Yesterday Russian beat Gata Kamsky, while today Fabiano Caruana of Italy failed to resist him.

Black got a complicated rook endgame. Italian had to play accurately.

MOROZEVICH - CARUANA

Fabiano played 40...Rxa3?, and after 41.f6 he could not save the game. The only chance for Black to hold was 40...Rf4. The position surely needs deeper analysis, but it seems that Black can hold here: activity of pieces compensate the lost pawn.

Another Russian playing in Tashkent, Sergey Karjakin started first two games of the tournament with Black. "1.5 out of 2 is a great result! But the hardest is ahead - the test with White!" - Sergey concluded in his Twitter page.

Noteworthy is Leko - Mamedyarov encounter. Azerbaijani started with fighting chess (1.e4 d6) and soon equalized. He even stood better in the endgame, but seemingly he just missed the right moment for strengthening initiative on 33rd move: interesting was 33...Bxg5! 34.Bxg5 Rc5 35.Ba4 Nxg5 36.f4 Rc4 37.fxg5 Re4+ 38.Kf2 Rxa4 variant instead of 33...Nc7. It's not that easy to calculate all this while playing though.

Morozevich takes a solo lead, Karjakin is 1/2 a point behind him.
